A Year in Austen Will Happen

So, I bought the complete works of Jane Austen as a Birthday present for myself, and I've made a late New Year's resolution to read them all in 2014. Austen might  make a romantic of me yet! I've been meaning to read more classics, and it seems that the majority of my social circle is deeply intimate with Jane. So, peer pressure abound, and here we are.

I've already read Pride and Prejudice. I was told it is best to start there, to cement your love of Jane before reading the other. And....I do believe it did! I will write a review for P&P soon, but I'll just say that I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I did!

More on Austen to Come...

Storm Front....Didn't Happen for Me.

I read it all. Yet I feel like I didn't read anything. Butcher's first novel, although funny at times, lacks any kind of substance. At least for my pallet. Harry Dresden is certainly a kind of character, but I failed to relate to him at all through the story. The other characters were mostly absurd in their behavior and flat in everything else. A lot of what they did made little sense. I couldn't perceive Harry's motivation, or even the main villain's. I suppose it being the debut of a series should justify it leaving the reader in a bit haze, but it failed to motivate me to read any more. I hear that the series gets better later on, but I think I'll save my time for a more gripping tale.
